The Crew
The Feel Good Larder began as Baked Gluten Free and its humble beginnings started at Bideford Pannier Market where I (Sam) started to get to grips with baking larger amounts and market life. I felt like the name Baked Gluten Free was not quite right and so The Feel Good Larder evolved and I moved to South Molton Market. I also started to expand my cake range and to sell salad boxes. I am so grateful for all the amazing support of my customers over the past 4 years at South Molton Market. However as much as I love being cold in the winter, market life was not the end goal, bricks and mortar were.
My love for cooking began when I was younger and I received my Sylvanian’s Family magazine containing a ‘rocky road’ style recipe in it. From what I recall it was amazing and I was hooked on cooking, ever since then I have loved cooking and being in the kitchen. Life has taken me in a slightly different direction than going to college to do a foody course, but nothing makes me happier than being in the kitchen and creating culinary delights which has led to the creation of The Feel Good Larder. There is nothing more gratifying than a customer saying how much they enjoyed a product.
I have been wheat intolerant for over 12 years and since have led a gluten free diet and feel so much better for it. The frustration of only being able to buy over processed gluten free food was huge, meaning I started to cook more and more, increasing my skills and knowledge in the kitchen. I am always looking at my food magazines or cookery book to get new ideas and inspiration. Receiving our veg box has continued to increase my knowledge and awareness of fresh produce.
Stu (my better half) in the early days was an important member of the team as he has the very vital job of taste testing new creations! However, his passion lies more with coffee. He enjoys tinkering with the coffee bean to get the best grind from the bean to make a fantastic coffee and is always working on his latte art. He loves making and serving freshly ground coffee and is happy to answer any questions. He has worked at Boston Tea Party for several years. So it is only right that this mighty team partners up and creates The Feel Good Larder “coffee shop”.
Oh and most importantly we must not forget the pooch, Piskie, who makes a regular appearance at the café. If you need a cuddle then she’s your girl.
We might be a small business but we pride ourselves in being friendly, reliable and the genuine article. So when you are next in Barnstaple come in say Hi and try some great coffee and food.
Living GF and a Heathy Lifestyle
Why we do what we do……
I am gf (Sam) so naturally cook gluten free and know how frustrating it is having reduced options, so we make everything gluten free.
Gluten is a protein found in grains such as wheat, barley & rye. It helps add that elasticity and structure to food.
Why is it so bad?
Gluten is present in a lot of manufactured food and more people are reacting to gluten as people eat more processed food. For us that are intolerant to gluten, our immune system attacks the gluten and our villi in our small intestine, impacting on how nutrients and fluids are absorbed. Some side effects are bloating, diarrhoea, weight loss, tiredness.
Food is important.
At The feel good Larder we are conscious about what we eat as food is important to help feed us and fuel us.
Food is our greatest ally to good health!!
A lot of food is now highly processed and contains 3 key ingredients ‘fat, sugar & salt’ that become addictive, and society have got use to this and crave it.
We are daring to be different and break the mould. We cook all our food fresh from its natural form, feeding you and your gut the right way. In doing this we are keeping you healthier and happy.
